Emergency service unit (ESU Team)The Bedford Police Emergency Service Unit was formed in 2002 for the purpose of having highly trained and equipped officers that can respond to any type of emergency and to contend with high risk situations. The ESU consists of a fully operational SWAT team and a fully operational sniper team. The ESU works in conjunction with a trained negotiator and the department's K-9 division. The ESU members train monthly and respond to call-outs 24/7, in addition to their normal departmental duties. The ESU team also assists with situations that require more manpower than a regular duty shift can provide such as missing person area searches and VIP protection details.
